Today March 28, 2024, the RWP Run Club embarked on a meaningful journey, transforming a traditional Holy Week observance into a collective act of faith and fellowship. Dubbed “Alay Takbo,” (Makati to Antipolo) this event was more than just a run; it was an offering of perseverance and camaraderie in honor of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Traditionally, Holy Week in the Philippines is a time for retreat and reflection, often spent away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Sharing stories at the start of our run, we realized many of us shared this custom of seeking solace in remote places during this sacred time. However, this year marked a departure from the norm, as over 80 runners from diverse backgrounds and beliefs came together to forge a new tradition—one that not only nurtures the spirit but also strengthens the body.
Our “Alay Takbo” wasn’t confined to a single distance; participants had the choice of embarking on a 21km or a more challenging 32km route. This flexibility allowed runners of all levels to partake in this spiritual journey, each step a testament to their dedication and faith.
What made this run truly remarkable was the diversity of its participants. Not all were Catholic; our group was a tapestry of different faiths, united by a common love for running. This inclusivity is a cornerstone of the RWP Run Club, where everyone is welcome, and every run is a celebration of our shared humanity.
The bonds formed during this run were profound. As we navigated the course, stories were shared, friendships were kindled, and a deeper understanding of one another emerged. Running side by side, we discovered the resilience and strength that lie within each of us, a reminder of the power of community and the impact we can have on each other’s lives.
“Alay Takbo” was more than just a physical challenge; it was a spiritual journey that highlighted the importance of support and togetherness in enacting positive change in our lives. It underscored the significance of community and how, together, we can transform traditional practices into something that not only honors our faith but also enriches our lives.
As we reflect on this blessed week, let us carry forward the spirit of “Alay Takbo” in our hearts. May the sense of unity and purpose we experienced on this holy day inspire us to seek out and nurture communities that uplift and support us in all our endeavors.
Wishing everyone a safe and blessed Holy Week. May the paths we choose to tread always lead us to greater understanding, compassion, and togetherness.
A profound reflection.. Thank you Coach Pat.
